How to Tightline Your Eyes with Eyeliner: 7 Tips & Hacks

You want to have a clean canvas for tightlining. Before you start, make sure your hands and face are clean, then apply a pea-sized amount of primer all over your lids.

1. Prep Your Eyes

Curling your lashes is an important next step. Go gently, and give them a good curl so you can get a better view of where your lashes and lids meet.

2. Curl Your Lashes

If you’re using a pencil liner, make sure to always sharpen it before tightlining.

3. Sharpen Your Pencil

If you want to use gel liner, you might want to think about using a flat or curved brush. Dip the brush into the filler pot and press the pigment on both sides of the brush to make the top more pointed and flat.

4. Use a Brush for Gels

Hold up your lid with your fingers and use short, swift strokes to draw a line along your waterline, or you can try to do it in one long stroke.

5. Tightline Your Upper Waterline

Repeat the above step on your lower lash line. Pull your lower lid gently downward to reveal the spaces between each of your lower lashes.

6. Define Your Lower Lash Line

To ensure your tightlining stays put throughout the day, you’ll want to apply powder or eyeshadow to the waterline with your flat or angled liner brush.

7. Set with Powder
