McDonald's Is Closing All Locations for a Day in This Country

The Golden Arches may be associated with Americana, but on September 19, McDonald's will honor the Queen.

The chain's UK Twitter feed says all UK outlets will be closed on Monday until 5 p.m. for The Queen's funeral. About 1,200 McDonald's restaurants operate in the UK.

McDonald's isn't the only prominent U.K. brand closing for the occasion. Primark, Harrods, Asda, Marks

and Spencer, Greggs, John Lewis, and Pizza Express will close or cut their hours.

London's financial markets and banks will be closed on Monday, the last day of national mourning in the UK.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has made headlines worldwide this week, but it signals the end of an era for the UK. 

Thousands of flowers, cards, and memorials have been sent to The Queen and Royal Family this week.

Queen Elizabeth II died September 8 at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. The Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh received 

her casket on September 11. Queen Elizabeth's coffin was carried to St Giles' Cathedral the following day by her four children.
