This King's College London study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, featured 87 adults whose diets lacked fiber but included harmful treats like chocolate and chips. 

After dividing participants into three groups, researchers encouraged one group to give up their usual snacks and eat 56 grams of whole almonds daily

for four weeks. Second-group snacks were the same amount of almonds. Instead of whole nuts, they were ground.

Researchers showed that participants who switched to a daily almond snack of either kind had more butyrate than muffin eaters after a month.

The gut bacteria produce short-chain fatty acids like butyrate, which affect human health. In a press statement, main author Professor Kevin
