American Bulldog

The bulldog was first utilized in England centuries ago to defend property, drive livestock, and participate in barbarous blood games. Bulldogs arrived in the US in the 1700s and worked on farms and ranches as livestock guardians and guards.

American Hairless Terrier

A purebred rat terrier litter produced a hairless female puppy called Josephine, which became the American hairless terrier. The American hairless terrier joined the Terrier Group of the American Kennel Club in 2016. The first US-developed hairless breed.

Boston, Massachusetts, originated the Boston terrier. Boston bought Judge, a bulldog-white English terrier mix. Judge was 30 pounds but strong. He founded the Boston terrier.

South Carolina breeders created the Boykin spaniel circa 1900 to hunt turkeys from boats. Whitaker "Whit" Boykin tamed a little mixed-breed stray that became the ancestor of all Boykins.
