Southwest Gifts 25,000 Reward Points to Customers

Southwest Airlines is giving certain Christmas week turmoil victims 25,000 points as it works on luggage concerns and refunds.

Southwest told Travel + Leisure, "this is available for every passenger on the reservation, up to 9 passengers."

Customers who had flights canceled or significantly delayed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2 and did not rebook or travel received Rapid Rewards points.

“Over the recent holiday travel week, we disrupted many of our Customers’ travel and holiday plans, and for that, we are truly sorry,” Southwest told T+L.

“We know we have much work to do as we rebuild our Customers' faith, loyalty, and trust. It's a passion, and our Southwest Family has never been more dedicated

Customers waiting for points had another long wait. Many complained on social media that after receiving an email with their new points, they had to wait online

Southwest is giving miles as a follow-up to the Christmas week debacle, which canceled thousands of flights during peak travel hours.

Southwest CEO Bob Jordan apologized last week, saying the airline “significantly” reduced its timetable to “catch up.”

Southwest has since provided refunds for unsold tickets and “reasonable hotel accommodations, meals, and ground transportation expenses.”
